What is an abandoned vehicle?

The Council makes a decision based on a number of factors including:

  1. The condition of the vehicle
  2. The length of time the vehicle has been in situ
  3. If the vehicle is taxed
  4. Location of the vehicle

All reports of abandoned vehicles are responded to within 24 hours

If the Council considers a vehicle to be abandoned it will then carry out a number of detailed checks which may include writing to the owner of the vehicle to work with him/her in getting the vehicle removed from site.

In the event ownership cannot be determined the Council may remove the vehicle from site and destroy it.

I have an old vehicle I no longer want, how do I get rid of it?

Please contact the Council on 01992 785564 to arrange removal - there will be a small fee. Alternatively you may wish to seek other reputable companies to have it removed. The Council advises that those found to be abandoning their vehicles can be fined up to £2,500.

What should I do if I see an untaxed vehicle?
