The summer holidays are looking brighter for disadvantaged children and young people in Broxbourne thanks to an exciting partnership.
From 26 July, Broxbourne Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council, the Herts Sports Partnership and the Hertfordshire Community Foundation will once again join forces to deliver healthy food alongside sport and physical activity, under the ‘HAPpy' brand: Hertfordshire’s Holiday Activity Programme.
The programme is open to children and young people aged five to 16 in receipt of free school meals. It aims to tackle the triple inequalities of holiday hunger, physical inactivity and social isolation.
Thanks to funding from the HAPpy Activity Programme fund, Broxbourne Borough Council are now able to run the programme in a number of areas, including:
- Waltham Cross at the Isabella House Nursery from Monday 26 July to Friday 3 September, (excluding Bank Holidays), 9am-1pm, 8-16 year olds
- Cheshunt at the Cheshunt Park Golf Centre from Monday 26 July to Friday 20 August, 10am–2pm, 8–16 year olds
- Hoddesdon at the John Warner Sports Centre from Monday 26 to Friday 27 August, 10am-2pm, 5–12 year olds.
The free activity sessions will provide young people with a free nutritious lunch and also give participants the opportunity to take part in enriching games and a range of activities including nerf wars, football, dodgeball, tennis, rounder and plenty of playground games.
To book children onto any of these programmes, please ask their school for a unique HAPpy booking code and then visit www.sportinherts.org.uk from 5 July. Other partners will also be delivering the HAPpy programme throughout Hertfordshire.
